Three days is our preferred length for travellers who want the main Varanasi experiences but also want breakfast, rest and unhurried time between them.

We keep the sunrise boat, old-city markets and Kashi Vishwanath together in one continuous morning rather than returning to the hotel immediately after the boat and then driving back into the restricted old city. Evening Aarti is normally planned from a balcony or through Sankalp participation, with reserved chairs as a comfort option.

Your day-by-day itinerary

DAY 01

Arrival — Old City & Evening Ganga Aarti

Arrive at Varanasi Airport or Varanasi Railway Station and transfer privately to your hotel. After check-in and some rest, meet your guide for a gentle introduction to the old city. Walk through selected market and neighbourhood lanes before approaching the river. For the evening Ganga Aarti, our preferred arrangement is an elevated balcony for the clearest full view of the ceremony or Sankalp participation for travellers who want to sit closer and take part. Reserved chair seating can be used for comfort. Boat viewing is arranged mainly when a guest specifically wants the river perspective because the priests are usually farther away and other boats can obstruct the sightline.

DAY 02

Sunrise Boat — Manikarnika — Chowk Markets — Kashi Vishwanath

Start before sunrise with a private motor-boat ride of around one hour. Continue towards Manikarnika Ghat, where the guide can sensitively explain the traditions surrounding cremation and moksha; guests who do not wish to see the cremation area simply bypass this part. Continue on foot through Chowk flower market, the traditional perfume market and Kachori Gali to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple area. Optional assisted priority / Sugam-style darshan is arranged only where the official procedure is operating. Afterwards walk to the agreed vehicle point and return to the hotel for breakfast and rest.

In the later part of the day visit selected sacred and cultural sites including Sankat Mochan, Tulsi Manas Temple, BHU & New Vishwanath Temple and Bharat Mata Temple. This separation keeps the dense old-city morning practical and the later sightseeing comfortable.

DAY 03

Sarnath — Deeper Banaras Experience — Departure

Visit Sarnath with enough time for Dhamek Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa, Mulagandha Kuti Vihara and the archaeological area. Include the Archaeological Museum when open. Subject to your departure timing, use the remaining time for one deeper experience such as a Banarasi weaving / craft visit, a guided food walk, the southern ghats or another cultural experience rather than adding a rushed checklist.

After the final visit, return to your hotel if required to collect luggage and proceed by private vehicle to Varanasi Airport or Varanasi Railway Station for your onward journey. We adjust Day 3 around the actual flight or train timing so the departure transfer remains comfortable.

Namo Ghat jetty transfers

For guests staying at BrijRama Palace, Guleria Kothi or Taj Ganges Avantika, the hotel jetty is at Namo Ghat. The hotels provide complimentary arrival and departure boat transfers from Namo Ghat as part of the hotel package. Our road vehicle brings guests to the jetty; the hotel manages the river transfer.

Why Sarnath is not treated as a rushed stop

We normally allow about 2½ hours at Sarnath, excluding the drive. Midday, before or after lunch, usually fits best because the early morning belongs to the river and old city. When time becomes tight, we prioritise the archaeological ruins and museum rather than trying to add every monastery.

This is why we prefer not to place Sarnath after a late-afternoon arrival and then race back for Ganga Aarti on the same evening. A three-day stay gives both experiences enough time.

Is three days a better first visit than two?

For many travellers, yes. It gives the early-morning programme room to breathe, keeps Sarnath from becoming a rushed photo stop and leaves time for one experience that matches your interests.

Can we return for breakfast after the sunrise boat?

Yes, but we recommend first completing the connected old-city sequence through Chowk and Kashi Vishwanath. Once the temple and market walk is complete, the guide meets the vehicle and you return to the hotel for breakfast and rest.

Can Manikarnika be omitted?

Yes. It is never treated as compulsory sightseeing. The guide includes it only for guests who are comfortable learning about Varanasi's cremation traditions.

Where does the tour finish?

Day 3 finishes with a private transfer to Varanasi Airport or Varanasi Railway Station according to the confirmed onward journey. We reduce or omit the optional final experience if required to protect the departure timing.
