Quick answer

Plan two nights in Deoghar, travel to Varanasi on Day 3 and spend two nights in Kashi. The listed 15:10–22:30 Vande Bharat connection means your Varanasi arrival evening is for a hotel transfer and rest.

Combining Baidyanath Dham and Kashi Vishwanath gives a Shiva pilgrimage a clear purpose in each city. The railway connection is useful, but a good itinerary still needs to account for the whole day: checking out, eating, reaching the correct station, boarding, arriving late and settling into the next hotel. Five days and four nights work when the first and last day's travel arrangements fit; they do not provide five full sightseeing days.

Deoghar–Varanasi Vande Bharat timings

Train 22499 Deoghar–Varanasi Vande Bharat is currently listed to leave Deoghar Junction (DGHR) at 15:10 and reach Varanasi Junction (BSB) at 22:30, running six days a week except Tuesday. Timings checked on 14 October 2026 against published timetable listings; reconfirm the selected date through Indian Railways/IRCTC before booking. The scheduled journey is 7 hours 20 minutes. Train tickets, class and catering must be specified in the quotation.

Choose the travel date before fixing the hotel sequence

Make the rail-transfer day the first fixed point in your plan. If Day 3 falls on Tuesday, shift the start date, add a night or ask about another suitable service. Do not book four non-refundable hotel nights and only then check whether the train runs. Seat availability, the desired travel class and your party's preference for sitting together also need to be considered.

Train 22499 is the Deoghar-to-Varanasi direction. A reverse journey uses a different service and timetable. The schedule above should not be applied to a Varanasi-to-Deoghar booking. Send the actual proposed dates so the entire route can be checked in the correct direction.

Days 1 and 2: settle in, then make the principal pilgrimage

Arrive in Deoghar on Day 1, transfer to the hotel and keep the first outing gentle. Naulakha Temple or a local orientation works if you arrive with time to spare. Reserve the main Baidyanath darshan for Day 2, followed by Basukinath with breaks, subject to the temple queues. This approach avoids making the most important visit depend on an on-time arrival.

If you want a particular puja, agree it beforehand. Temple assistance, a priest's ritual service and special darshan options must be described separately. Your itinerary should identify the arrangements that are included and those that still need confirmation. The second Deoghar night also removes the pressure of returning from Basukinath directly to a train.

Day 3: protect the railway connection

Keep the morning local. Breakfast, a short market visit and an organised checkout are more sensible than a lengthy hill excursion. Arrange lunch and discuss luggage storage if the hotel checkout time is earlier than your station transfer. Reach the station with enough time to identify the coach and board comfortably; assistance with luggage should be requested explicitly.

Deoghar Junction and Jasidih Junction are different stations. Follow the boarding station printed on your ticket. Do not substitute one simply because a train is also listed as stopping there, and do not assume the hotel driver has seen your ticket. Send the final ticket details and reconfirm the pickup point and time.

Chair Car and Executive Chair Car arrangements should be quoted according to availability and preference. Confirm catering rather than assuming every desired meal is covered. For guests who need specific food, carry appropriate refreshments within railway rules and allow for the late hotel arrival.

The late arrival in Varanasi changes the plan

A scheduled 22:30 station arrival is followed by disembarkation, locating your driver and travelling to the hotel. Reserve the room for that night and advise the hotel of late check-in. Confirm whether dinner will be available or whether a packed meal or snack is more practical. A room reservation alone does not guarantee that the restaurant remains open.

Do not schedule Ganga Aarti on this evening. It belongs on Day 4. A roadside-accessible hotel can simplify the late arrival, while riverfront properties may require additional walking or steps. If you prefer a ghat hotel, review its exact access arrangements with luggage before booking.

Days 4 and 5: Kashi with a sensible pace

Start Day 4 comfortably after the late arrival. Visit Kashi Vishwanath and selected old-city sights, pause for a meal and rest, then attend Ganga Aarti in the evening. Reserve seating or Sankalp participation can be quoted. A sunrise boat outing can be planned for Day 5 if your departure allows, subject to river permissions and conditions.

Sarnath needs its own time. Add it on the final day only if your departure leaves an adequate sightseeing and transfer buffer; the museum is closed on Fridays. If you want a gentle pace with Kashi, the river, Sarnath and additional city temples, extend Varanasi to three nights. Our guide to how many days in Varanasi explains the difference between nights booked and usable visiting time.

What should the quotation include?

Ask for named hotels and room categories, meal plans, both cities' transfers, vehicle duty periods, local assistance or guides, train class and tickets, and any separately requested puja or darshan arrangements. Ganga Aarti chairs, boating and porterage should be identified rather than left implicit. Share luggage quantities and walking needs so the vehicles and hotels match the family, not simply the headcount.
