Plan Varanasi to Ayodhya by road: distance, driving time, private Innova or sedan, Ram Mandir access, mobility advice and a comfortable 4-day itinerary.

Kashi and Ayodhya can be combined comfortably in a private overland journey, but the most useful planning question is not just how many kilometres separate them. It is when to leave Varanasi, how much time to reserve for Ram Mandir and where private vehicles must stop. Good sequencing makes the difference between a meaningful pilgrimage and a very long day in traffic.
The drive is roughly 200–220 km by commonly used road routes. Allow approximately 4–5½ hours by private car in normal conditions, plus extra time for breaks, congestion and local temple-area access. For most families, we favour at least one night in Ayodhya rather than a rushed same-day return.
The exact road distance depends on your Varanasi pickup point, hotel in Ayodhya and the route chosen that day. Approximate online times can ignore Varanasi's city exit, intermediate stops and the increasingly important Ayodhya vehicle-control zones. For itineraries we operate locally, allowing four to five and a half hours creates a more realistic planning margin than a promise of a fixed arrival minute.
For visitors arriving by air, remember that driving from Varanasi Airport is a different starting point from a riverfront hotel in the old city. If you are travelling with senior citizens, choose a reasonable mid-journey comfort stop and keep the first Ayodhya afternoon light.
AC sedan: suited to a couple with moderate luggage. Innova Crysta: useful for a family seeking more comfort and space. Tempo Traveller or Force Urbania: appropriate for private groups, with seating determined by the group size and luggage.
We arrange chauffeur-driven transport and quote the total programme based on the dates, number of guests, sightseeing requirements and final drop. Make sure your quotation confirms the vehicle category, pickup and drop points, parking, tolls and driver-related inclusions, rather than comparing only an advertised per-kilometre rate.
It is technically possible, but a return journey may consume eight to eleven hours of driving before allowing time for temples, meals, local transfers or queues. During festival periods or weekends, the uncertainty is greater. A same-day visit can work only for travellers who accept a very early start and a narrow sightseeing plan.
For a family pilgrimage, our preference is to stay overnight in Ayodhya. Two nights are even better if you want Ram Janmabhoomi, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Dashrath Mahal and time at the Saryu River without racing between places.

This Varanasi–Ayodhya journey can be extended to five days for a slower rhythm. The four-day outline below is a practical starting point for two nights in Varanasi and one in Ayodhya.
Meet your chauffeur at the airport or station and transfer to the hotel. After settling in, take a locally guided Northern Bazaar walk through selected historic lanes. Continue to the Ganges for evening Ganga Aarti with a suitable ghat seating or other pre-arranged viewing option, subject to availability. Overnight in Varanasi.
Begin with a private Ganges boat if the authorities permit sailing and visibility is appropriate; otherwise, enjoy a guided riverfront walk. Plan the Kashi Vishwanath approach around temple access and walking comfort. After a break, explore Sarnath, including Dhamek Stupa and the Buddhist sites, with the museum included when open (normally closed on Fridays). Overnight in Varanasi.
Depart after breakfast in your private vehicle. Allow a comfortable road transfer with a rest stop. Check into your Ayodhya hotel, then make a gentle evening visit to Ram Ki Paidi and the Saryu riverfront. Attend Saryu Aarti when it is operating and the local movement arrangements allow. Overnight in Ayodhya.
After breakfast, meet your local guide and proceed towards Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, allowing time for the security process, walking approach and the day's queues. Add Hanuman Garhi or Kanak Bhawan when the departure timing realistically allows. Continue to Ayodhya Airport or railway station for your onward journey. Tour concludes.
Choose a route that gives Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya enough time instead of turning them into rushed transit stops.
