Itinerary

Your day-by-day itinerary

Arrive Varanasi — Old City & Ganga Aarti — Tour Varanasi
DAY 01

Arrive Varanasi — Old City & Ganga Aarti

After arrival and time to settle, meet your guide for a relaxed introduction to old Varanasi. Walk through selected bazaar lanes towards the river and end with the evening Ganga Aarti from an arranged viewing position. The first day is intentionally measured so you can absorb the city without turning an arrival day into a long sightseeing programme.

Sightseeing: Northern Bazaar, old-city lanes, Dashashwamedh Ghat and evening Ganga Aarti

Overnight: Varanasi

Sunrise Varanasi & Sarnath — Tour Varanasi
DAY 02

Sunrise Varanasi & Sarnath

Begin before sunrise with a private boat on the Ganges, followed by a short ghat walk and breakfast at the hotel. Later travel to Sarnath for the main Buddhist sites and archaeological remains. This day acts as the natural bridge between Varanasi and the wider Buddhist Circuit, giving context before the journey continues towards Bodh Gaya.

Sightseeing: Private sunrise boat, selected sacred Varanasi, Dhamek Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa, archaeological ruins and Mulagandha Kuti Vihara

Overnight: Varanasi

Varanasi → Bodh Gaya — Tour Varanasi
DAY 03

Varanasi → Bodh Gaya

Travel privately to Bodh Gaya after breakfast, stopping for comfort as required. After hotel check-in, keep the programme light and consider an evening visit to the Mahabodhi Temple if arrival time permits. We prefer this quieter introduction to the site rather than adding a rushed list of monasteries after a substantial road journey.

Sightseeing: Private road transfer and optional evening visit to Mahabodhi Temple

Overnight: Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya — Tour Varanasi
DAY 04

Bodh Gaya

Spend the day at the heart of the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit. Explore the Mahabodhi Temple and Bodhi Tree, then continue to the Great Buddha Statue and selected international monasteries. Depending on your interest and walking preference, Sujata Village or Dungeshwari can also be included, but the day is kept focused enough to allow time for reflection.

Sightseeing: Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhi Tree, Great Buddha Statue, selected international monasteries, optional Sujata Village or Dungeshwari

Overnight: Bodh Gaya

Rajgir & Nalanda → Patna — Tour Varanasi
DAY 05

Rajgir & Nalanda → Patna

Leave Bodh Gaya for Rajgir, where important Buddhist associations are spread through a landscape of low hills. Continue to Nalanda to walk through the extensive ruins of the ancient monastic university and visit the museum when open. Later drive to Patna for the night, keeping the day centred on the strongest historical sites rather than unnecessary stops.

Sightseeing: Rajgir, Vishwa Shanti Stupa / Vulture’s Peak as appropriate, Nalanda archaeological ruins and Nalanda Museum when open

Overnight: Patna

Patna → Kushinagar — Tour Varanasi
DAY 06

Patna → Kushinagar

After breakfast, begin the longer private road journey towards Kushinagar. If your departure from Patna is not too late, one selected city visit can be included before leaving, but the priority is a comfortable journey with realistic breaks. On arrival in Kushinagar, settle into the hotel and keep any sightseeing limited to what the remaining daylight comfortably allows.

Sightseeing: Optional Bihar Museum or Takht Sri Patna Sahib before the road journey; evening Kushinagar visit if timing permits

Overnight: Kushinagar

Kushinagar & Departure — Tour Varanasi
DAY 07

Kushinagar & Departure

Visit the principal Buddhist sites associated with the Buddha’s Mahaparinirvana, allowing your guide to explain their significance without rushing between monuments. Continue to the Ramabhar Stupa area and selected monasteries before your onward transfer. The final sequence is adjusted around your next destination, flight, train or continued overland journey.

Sightseeing: Mahaparinirvana Temple, Reclining Buddha, Ramabhar Stupa and selected Kushinagar monasteries

Overnight: Departure / onward journey

Good to know

Site opening hours, road conditions and rail schedules can change. We confirm the latest timings before travel and keep long driving days realistic.
