Varanasi, at Your Own Pace
Sankalp Ganga Aarti, a decorated sunrise boat with live flute music, an old-city walk, Kashi Vishwanath darshan and an afternoon in Sarnath.
Discover Varanasi through its river, rituals and living traditions, with private arrangements and local guidance throughout the planned sightseeing. This itinerary combines the city’s principal experiences over two nights, with departure kept separate on the final day. It can be arranged with accommodation or around a hotel you have already booked.
On arrival at Varanasi Airport or railway station, meet our representative and chauffeur for your private transfer to the hotel. Settle in and enjoy some time to rest before your evening visit to the Ganges. For hotels within the old city or on the riverfront, the final approach will be planned according to the property’s access.
Later, accompany your local guide towards Dashashwamedh Ghat, where the riverfront gathers for the evening Ganga Aarti. Your guide will explain the significance of the ceremony and help you reach your reserved seating close to the priests.
Our Sankalp Aarti arrangement is INR 1,100 per person. It includes assistance with the Sankalp prayer, reserved seating close to the ceremony and a diya offering according to the permitted arrangements. The Sankalp is an opportunity to express a personal prayer or intention before witnessing the evening worship.
You may wish to offer a prayer for your family, give thanks or simply take a quiet moment to reflect. Your guide will explain the sequence and help you follow the priest’s instructions, so you can participate comfortably without needing prior knowledge of the ritual. Participation is a personal choice, and respectful observation is equally welcome.
As the lamps are raised in carefully coordinated movements, the sound of bells and chanting fills the riverfront. Incense rises above the priests and the light of the lamps illuminates the ghat. Experiencing the ceremony from the reserved ghat seating allows you to feel close to these details.
The meeting time will be advised according to the season and confirmed ceremony arrangements. Afterwards, return to your hotel. Overnight in Varanasi.

Leave before sunrise and proceed to the agreed boarding point for your privately arranged, decorated boat. A flute musician will accompany you on board, bringing gentle live music to the morning river experience.
The decoration gives the boat a festive touch, while the private arrangement allows your party to share the experience together. Gentle flute melodies accompany the changing morning light, with pauses to listen to the sounds of the ghats and your guide’s explanations. There is time to enjoy the views and take photographs without hurrying from one stop to the next.
As daylight spreads over the Ganges, watch the ghats come to life: worshippers offer prayers, pilgrims gather at the water’s edge and the old riverfront buildings emerge in the changing light. Your guide will introduce the ghats and the traditions associated with the river, allowing time to enjoy the music and surroundings.
The exact route, boat type and duration will be confirmed for your party. Boating remains subject to river conditions and local permissions; if operations are restricted, we will discuss a suitable morning alternative.

After the boat ride, continue on a walk through the old lanes and bazaars. Discover neighbourhood shrines, flower sellers and the everyday activity around Vishwanath Gali and Kachori Gali. According to the route and opening of the shops, the walk can introduce the metalworking lanes of Thatheri Bazaar and traditional perfume stalls.
Your guide will explain the city’s customs and help you appreciate the relationship between worship, trade and daily life. The route can be shortened to suit your walking comfort; any food tastings can be arranged separately.

Continue to Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple for the pre-arranged VIP / Sugam Darshan service, subject to availability and the temple’s permitted arrangements. Dedicated local assistance will help coordinate your approach and the confirmed darshan procedure.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kashi Vishwanath is one of the central sacred landmarks of Varanasi. Allow time to absorb the atmosphere of the temple precinct rather than treating the visit as a hurried sightseeing stop. Security checks, entry requirements and any waiting remain subject to the temple administration.
Return to the hotel for breakfast and a rest. Afterwards, continue with selected city temples: Sankat Mochan Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman; Durga Temple; and the New Vishwanath Temple within Banaras Hindu University. The sequence and number of stops can be adjusted around the confirmed darshan time and your preferred pace.
After a lunch break, drive to Sarnath, associated with the Buddha’s first sermon after attaining enlightenment. The quieter surroundings offer a different perspective from the busy lanes and riverfront of Varanasi.
With your guide, explore the archaeological remains around Dhamek Stupa and learn about the monasteries and Buddhist community that once flourished here. Visit the Archaeological Museum when open, including its renowned Lion Capital of Ashoka, and continue to selected Buddhist temples and the large Buddha statue as time permits.
The programme will be adapted to site opening hours and the time available. Return to your hotel in Varanasi. Overnight in Varanasi.

Enjoy breakfast and check out according to your confirmed departure schedule. Your chauffeur will transfer you privately to Varanasi Airport or the railway station for your onward journey. No sightseeing is scheduled on the departure day.
A privately arranged weaving visit offers a closer understanding of the people behind Banarasi textiles. Step inside a working artisan workshop to see how threads are prepared, looms are operated and detailed motifs are woven into the fabric.
Look closely at the rhythm of the loom: the movement of the shuttle, the arrangement of the threads and the gradual appearance of a pattern. Your host can explain the stages being demonstrated that day, how silk and zari contribute to the finished textile, and the differences between handloom and machine-made work. Because this is a working craft visit, what you see will depend on the pieces currently on the looms.
There is also an opportunity to ask about the skills passed between generations and the everyday work behind a Banarasi sari or brocade. The visit is designed as an exchange with the people who practise the craft, allowing you to appreciate the time and attention behind each finished piece.
Your guide and the artisans can explain silk, zari and the patient work involved in handloom weaving. The focus is on craftsmanship and livelihoods, with no obligation to shop. This optional visit is best added during a suitable free period or with an extra night, so the principal programme remains comfortable. It is quoted separately and is not scheduled on the departure day.

The final quotation will specify the exact vehicle, service hours, boat arrangement and all confirmed inclusions.
This is an active sightseeing programme, particularly on Day 2. Tell us about mobility needs, preferred start times or visits you wish to prioritise. An extra night allows Sarnath and craft experiences to be spread across separate days.
Published reference rates are not valid during Dev Deepawali or blackout periods. All services are subject to availability and confirmation for your travel dates. Late arrivals on Day 1 may require moving the Aarti to another evening.
