Lucknow, with Time to Enjoy Its Hospitality
Lucknow reveals itself through the aroma of a freshly prepared dish, the detail of an old gateway and the stories that give its buildings meaning. A private guide helps connect these experiences, while comfortable transport and a well-chosen hotel give you time to enjoy them.
Our luxury Lucknow tour brings together an evening food walk, the city’s great Imambaras, Rumi Darwaza and an art gallery visit, followed by the British Residency and a photo stop at Dilkusha Kothi. The two-night, three-day programme introduces both the city’s Nawabi heritage and its later history. Tea, dinner or another meal with Nawab Saheb can be arranged separately on request.
A comfortable hotel, private transport and a considered pace give the journey its shape. The main experiences fall on the first two days, with the final morning reserved for departure. Accommodation can be included in your proposal, or we can arrange the ground programme around a hotel you have already booked.
Your guide connects the buildings with the people and traditions behind them. The food walk is planned around your preferences, and the sightseeing allows for a lunch break. Each proposal clearly identifies your hotel arrangements, daily programme and any additional hosted experience.
Meet your driver at Lucknow airport or your confirmed railway station for a private transfer to your hotel. Allow time to settle into your room, have a light meal and rest before the first outing.
For early arrivals, an early check-in can be requested, subject to the hotel’s availability and charges.
For guests continuing from Ayodhya or Varanasi, the road journey can be included in the proposal. The first day’s schedule is then adjusted to the actual arrival time.
Later, meet your local guide for a private food walk, exploring Lucknow through its flavours and the everyday life around its food establishments. The walk combines selected tastings with stories about the city’s cooking traditions and the role of food in local hospitality.
Move between the agreed stops at a comfortable pace, allowing time to taste, ask questions and watch food being prepared where the setting allows. Your guide introduces the dishes and ingredients as you go. For guests interested in Awadhi cooking, this is an enjoyable first encounter with the aromas, textures and techniques that give the cuisine its character.
The tasting selection is agreed around your preferences. Tell us in advance whether you would like vegetarian or non-vegetarian options, along with any allergies or dietary restrictions. We confirm the route and included tastings before the visit, with pauses and shorter walking sections where needed.
This evening is part of the main itinerary. Tea or a meal with Nawab Saheb is available as an additional experience, described below.
Return to your hotel after the walk. An arrival early enough to settle in and rest is recommended so you can enjoy the evening comfortably.
Overnight in Lucknow.

After breakfast, begin your exploration of old Lucknow with Bara Imambara. The scale of its central hall makes a strong first impression, but the visit becomes more rewarding when your guide explains its religious purpose and the patronage behind its construction.
An imambara is a place associated with Shia religious observance. Understanding that context helps you appreciate the complex respectfully as well as architecturally.
If you are comfortable with stairs and enclosed passages, the Bhul Bhulaiya can form part of the visit with the required authorised guidance. It is optional for guests who prefer to avoid climbing or confined spaces. We agree on a practical route for the whole party, including anyone who would like to remain in the more accessible areas.
Your guide will explain the etiquette and access arrangements for the sections you visit.
Continue to Chhota Imambara, where the experience shifts towards detail: the courtyard, decorative surfaces, mirrors and chandeliers. Your guide connects these features with the building’s religious purpose and its place in Lucknow’s courtly history.
Next, visit Rumi Darwaza, one of the city’s most recognisable gateways. Take time to appreciate the proportions and decoration, with a stop for photographs where it is safe and permitted.
Continue with an art gallery visit at Hussainabad Picture Gallery. Your guide introduces the works on display and relates them to the city’s Nawabi past, adding a visual perspective to the architecture you have explored during the morning.
The sequence of the morning visits is coordinated around opening arrangements and local traffic, with walking distances adjusted to your party.
Pause for lunch before the afternoon sightseeing. This interval allows time to sit down and refresh after the morning visits. A hotel rest can be built in where practical within the day’s route and opening hours.
Lunch can be taken at your hotel or a pre-agreed restaurant according to your preference. It is quoted separately unless included in your booked meal plan.
In the afternoon, explore the British Residency with your guide. The surviving buildings, ruins and grounds introduce another chapter of Lucknow’s history, particularly the events of 1857.
Walk through selected parts of the complex while your guide explains how the site developed and why it became central to the conflict. The visit allows time to look closely at the remaining structures and understand their relationship to the wider city. The museum may be included when open and time permits.
Continue to Dilkusha Kothi for a photo stop. The remains of this former royal retreat and the surrounding greenery provide a different architectural setting from the Imambaras visited earlier.
Your guide offers a brief introduction, with time for photographs from the permitted viewing areas. This is planned as a short stop before returning to the hotel, keeping the afternoon manageable.
The evening is free to relax. If you have chosen an optional dinner with Nawab Saheb, we coordinate that separately around the confirmed appointment.
Return to the hotel for your second overnight stay.

Enjoy breakfast, check out and meet your driver for the transfer to the airport, railway station or your next confirmed destination.
No sightseeing is planned on departure day. This provides time to pack, leave comfortably and allow for city traffic. If you would like to explore more of Lucknow, an additional night gives those visits their own space.

We have special contracted rates with all the top luxury hotels in Lucknow and Ayodhya. Share your preferred property and room category, or let us suggest a stay that suits your style, comfort and budget. We will quote the applicable contracted rate for your travel dates, subject to availability and the hotel’s booking conditions.
Taj Mahal Lucknow, with its gardens and courtyard setting, is one option for a luxury stay. We can also consider alternatives according to your dates, preferred location and budget.
Your proposal identifies the property, room category, meal plan and booking terms. Tell us about twin beds, adjoining rooms or access requirements so these can be checked with the hotel.
Guests who have already arranged accommodation can book the private guide, transport and selected experiences separately.
On request, we can arrange tea, dinner or another meal with Nawab Saheb of Lucknow. During this hosted experience, Nawab Saheb introduces guests to Awadhi cuisine, Lucknow’s history and the traditions of local hospitality.
The occasion gives you time for conversation as well as food. Ask about the preparation of the dishes, the customs surrounding a shared meal or the ways in which the city’s history is reflected in its hospitality. Tea offers a shorter introduction, while a meal allows more time to enjoy the cuisine and discussion.
We confirm the appointment, venue, menu, dietary requirements and duration in advance. This experience is optional and quoted separately, subject to Nawab Saheb’s availability. It can be arranged during a suitable free period, with an additional night if you would prefer a more relaxed programme.
For guests with additional time, a chikankari visit or a longer heritage walk can also be discussed and quoted separately. Departure day remains free of sightseeing commitments.

The private programme includes:
The final quotation specifies the vehicle, guide duty periods, food-walk tastings and all confirmed inclusions. Breakfast references follow your hotel’s booked meal plan.
Your itemised quotation clearly identifies any admission charges or other costs included in the total, together with anything payable separately.
The personalised price reflects your dates, group size, hotel and selected experiences.
Share your flight or train details, walking preferences and dietary requirements at the planning stage. The order of visits may change to fit monument access, religious observances, traffic and host availability.
Some heritage sections involve steps or uneven surfaces. Tell us whether anyone in your party would prefer shorter walks or to avoid the Bhul Bhulaiya. We can adapt the programme without making climbing an essential part of the visit.
Day 2 covers several heritage sites. Tell us about mobility needs or visits you would like to spend longer at, so we can plan breaks and the sequence accordingly. An additional night gives more time for a hosted meal, photography or optional craft experiences.
Tell us your travel dates, number of guests, preferred hotel and whether you would like to add tea or a meal with Nawab Saheb. Please include any walking or dietary requirements.
We will prepare a private itinerary with the confirmed host or venue details, meal arrangements, daily pace and a clear quotation. Lucknow can be enjoyed on its own or combined with Ayodhya and Varanasi as part of a longer journey.
